d'great digicam hunt

armed with purchasing power -- having received the sacrament of bonus money -- we trooped to the secret enclaves of quiapo in search for cheap but sophisticated digital cameras (hereunto referred to as digicams).

it's really quite romantic that we chose the first of May to purchase the coveted gizmos. on that day devoted to the sacrifices of the working class, we treated ourselves to the absolute luxury of the most high-tech vanity tool. what is that thing again about the fruits of your labor?

it turned out that the fruits of our labor were Cannon Ixus 7.1 million megapixels of yumminess. it would set as back P16,500 each (of course this was haggled price, and mommy bea's boyfriend had to endure the stern resistance of the chinese store owner). mommy bea bought one, mama rene bought one, bugan bought one. lil jessica bought a funny little contraption that you can stick to your camera, so in turn, the camera can be stuck anywhere else. it's called a gorillapod and it's truly cute.

i pretended to believe in the virtue of saving. plus i still haven't gotten over the digicam banne and i lost in Enchanted Kingdom last year. when i told my sister i lost her graduation gift, i could hear her heart break over the phone all the way from dubai. such sad thoughts.

(the rest of our bonus money would pay for brother's tuition fees, sister's laboratory fees, mama's hospital bills, papa's house improvement projects, tito's babuyan business, tita's utangs, bunso's cell phone, lola's load, kuya's 52nd baby, mang carding's pam-piyansa, aling nena's debut, what-have-you. in short, to everyone back home.)

it's true what they say about our generation. we are absolutely vain. you only have to switch the tv on and watch channels after channels of advertising directed to our age bracket selling "age miracle creams" and "age-defying shampoo". you cannot count the number of "beach bods" contests with the your fingers and toes. you can barely travel thru C5 without getting a stiff neck from turning your head to porn-ish billboards.

we are absolutely in love with ourselves. we have learned to equate great looking clothes to a successful career; fair skin to a happy love life; toned body to healthy living. our older siblings' generation had their depression, our parents' had their free love, our lolos' had their revolutions, we have our looks. and by george, do we look good. go to any mall and stare at us in our pamporma attire and tell me i'm lying.

at the end of our labor day escapade, we went to see Ang Cute ng Ina Mo. it's a perfect movie if you don't want to think. you just need to sit down and listen to Eugene Domingo's faux ausie accent. it's hysterical.

we might want to be cool, but we really crave for a good ai ai movie.

everyone's going away

fun times at contessa during jan's despidida. 3 people in this picture have left Azeus. it won't be long till 2 follow suit (well, 1 is still under negotiation as of writing). employment is a tricky thing.

that's my "what am i gonna do after these a-holes leave me" face. i'll be that creepy guy in your office who eats lunch alone. heck i'll be dwight k. schrute and terrorize everyone! darn it, guys!

Lippo Centre

this is my favorite building in HK (one of the pair). wiki tells me it was designed to look like koala bears hugging a tree trunk. hehe.. real cute.

props to kerwin for taking the picture. but i did the tasteful cropping (notice how the bank of china tower tastefully peeks at the left side.. hahaha..).

the chinese believe the Lippo Centre has very bad feng shui. sucks how something so pretty is regarded quite negatively.

hapit na...

just go ahead let your hair down

there comes a point in every young man's life when he wants to grow his hair longer than usual. this point came last year for me. my hair grew long enough to have strands tickle my neck at the slightest suggestion of wind. thereuntil i have been rather clean-cut and it was admittedly a thrill having to work quite a lather each time i shampooed.

long-haired and missing adventure, i went with DOTers (DOTA -- Defense of the Arts -- players) to Baguio for 2 days and a night. we didn't know anybody there but we managed to rent a 3-bed room near Teachers' Village. it wasn't much, but we had cable TV.

i felt normal walking around SM Baguio with long hair. somehow, everyone looked artiste up there. everyone also looked a lot more laid-back and trouble-free. (everyone i know who's been to Baguio say the same thing about the local's temperament. we all assume it's because of the weather.) everyone went about in the manner of cool resignation; it seemed preposterous to fuzz about one's hair.

the next time i feel the urge to wear my hair long, i'll climb Baguio.
